The Accountant provides expertise, knowledge and skills in the field of financial accounting. Responsible for ensuring that all business transactions have been properly accounted for, accurately and completely reflected on the company's books. The Accountant oversees all company accounting functions such as maintaining control over assets, liabilities, income and expenses of the company, manages the month-end closing process, reconcile inter-company accounts, and perform major banks and other account reconciliations in support of the financial statements. The Accountant also interprets, compiles and maintains automotive accounting information for dealerships by creating respective reports and perform other office duties that support dealership accounting processes, as needed. Coordinates directly with the President & Vice President/ General Manager with a high level of independence and professional discretion in maintaining accountability for all financial accounting functions.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure an accurate and timely month end close by preparing various journal entries and account reconciliations for cash, prepaids, accruals, inter-company, fixed assets and various other accounts.
- Coordinate with other departments to obtain transaction information, research reconciling items and resolve issues.
- Performing audits on financial data to assure its accuracy and truthfulness.
- Ensuring that financial information complies with professional and regulatory standards.
- Aligning general ledger accounting practices to support budgeting and forecasting.
- Entering financial data such as accruals, deferrals, reclassifications and interdepartmental entries into the ledger on a monthly basis, as well as preparing reports.
- Performing account analysis to ensure that journal entries and balances are correct.
- Handle financial and management reporting.
- Participate in annual statutory audit and tax filing.
- Provide backup support to the accounts payable as needed such as verifying and investigating discrepancies, if any, by reconciling vendor accounts and monthly vendor statements.
- Analyze expense accounts and cost centers.
- Conduct physical inventory audits and report any discrepancies.
- Ensure accurate and timely inventory reporting to management
- Accounting for the company’s Cost of Goods with a focus on Inventory on hand, sensitive inventory movements and associated inventory variances.
- Reviews accuracy of inventory movement and cost adjustments.
- Assist in the development of internal controls.
- Review and analyze financial statements to ensure adherence to the U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Reviewing annual IRS Forms W-2 for employees, report timely and accurately to the IRS.
- Compute taxes owed, prepare tax returns and ensure that taxes are paid properly and on time.
- Ensure compliance with taxes and licenses.
- Assists external auditors to year-end data for consolidation of Audited Financial Statements.
- Master the use of the accounting software to create reports, aid with analysis, and retrieve financial data requested by management.
- Key player in month-end close and responsible for ensuring the close process is completed smoothly.
- Perform other related duties as assigned or requested by the President or the General Manager.
